Flagler County (Fl) Sheriff’s Office DEPUTY ERIK PEDERSEN SAVES LIFE OF JUST BORN BABY:

Flagler County Deputies were dispatched at 0430 hrs. to a 911 call that came in of a mom-in-labor and that the

baby’s head was already out. As Deputy Erik Pedersen and Corporal Reynolds approached the front door, they

heard frantic screams. From th…e time the call came in to the moment the Deputies entered the home, the baby

had already been fully born … but there was a problem … the child was blue and not breathing …

Without a moments hesitation, the Deputies tried to calm the 28 year old crying mom. Deputy Pedersen knelt

down on the living room floor next her and checked to see that the umbilical chord was not the cause.

Once it was determined not to be so, Brother Erik took a pair of scissors to cut away the mother’s shorts

and then gently took the new-born in his hands and began the stimulation process by rubbing his back firmly

but with caution.

He kept this up while clearing the airways until everyone heard that welcoming sound … cries.

As the baby began breathing, his color steadily began to turn pink. (as did everyone else’s). Other Deputies and

the Medics arrived and transported mom and baby to the hospital … and the Deputies went

back to their patrol duties … with big grins on their faces.

Deputies from the afternoon shift went back to the home to check on the family and

proud Papa Bobby said mommy Tara, and baby Cameron James, who was 3 weeks early

and weighed in at 4 pounds, 6 ounces, were doing great and should be out of the hospital

after a short stay. Their 15 month old, Bobby, who witnessed this miracle, is looking forward to being a ‘big brother’.

AWESOME WORK BROTHER ERIK!! WAY TO GO EVERYONE!
Congratulations to the Edge/ Williams family on your new addition.

Sheriff Donald W. Fleming stated “Law enforcement has many challenges.

This is one of those memorable moments that this deputy will be able to look

back on years from now knowing that his quick actions saved this child’s life.”
